This is the book that was used for the graduate level Thermodynamics class that I took. Like most textbooks, it isn't perfect. In this case, it is pretty lengthy, in fact it is 880 pages long. But it has a lot of black and white figures that are of high quality, and the individual pages are also fairly small. Bejan likes to take a few paragraphs here and there to explain things about thermodynamics research history and other relevant events in science and engineering history to explain how some of the fundamental thermodynamics concepts were originally contrived. Some of you will take interest in this, since this discoveries do indeed constitute rich history. For example, he talks about how as recently as a few hundred years ago, people thought that fire was essential for getting water to boil, because they just didn't know anything about thermodynamics. On the other hand, those of you who are looking to grasp the concepts of thermodyamics as quickly as possible because you are cramming for an exam or trying to get the homework done, or for those of you who want a quick reference book for thermodynamics, you may get frustrated with Bejan's looser, less technical/concise writing style.If you are taking a course that requires this book, and are concerned about what I've said, I would recommend that you consider getting another book in addition to this one that is more concise to use as quicker reference when you are in a hurry and getting impatient with Bejan's writing. If you are on a tight budget, you can even buy an outdated copy, and it should work fine. Fundamentals of Engineering Thermodynamics by Moran and Shapiro is one that might not be quite as advanced as this book, but it can help you to get through the basic and intermediate concepts of Thermodynamics more quickly than this book. The Moran and Shapiro book is currently on its 7th edition, so just go get the 4th or 5th edition, and it will be cheap for you.If you are taking Thermo right now, best of luck!!!
Written well enough on a very complicated subject. But I do wish that were more over-arching connections between the sections of each chapter.
Not all topics are easy to understand. Some are very advanced and some elementary topics are not included because you know them first before you read this book. Do some research on this author to gain more insight.
In our graduate level course, we were forced to use this terrible book. The committee, for some reason, approved this book even if the professors dislike it. The book problems are very wordy and the book does not contain all the information to complete the problem. After much outcry of my classmates, our professor decided to drop the book. We now use our professor's notes and problems.Please choose another graduate level textbook.
Used for graduate level work. Very confusing book. Not clear, maybe ok for mechanical engineers but not chemical engineers. Purchase at your own risk.
The book has too many printing omissions. For example, 'thermodynamics' reads 'the mod nam s' at many places and so on.
Its a textbook. So the subject matter is blah. Easy to navigate though.
